What is considered a medical need for donor milk?
Medical need means your child’s doctor has identified a health reason that makes donor milk essential for treatment or recovery. This could include conditions such as:
Prematurity or very low birth weight (born before 32 weeks or weighing less than 1500g)
Digestive or metabolic disorders, or recovery from intestinal surgery when digestive needs require additional support
Failure to thrive (difficulty gaining weight despite feeding efforts)
Severe formula intolerance with documented feeding difficulties or medical contraindications to formula
Serious heart conditions or organ transplant care
Other significant health issues where donor milk supports recovery and growth
